To kick off Homecoming weekend, the Hon. Catherine McKenna, PC, ³¢³¢µþ’99, will present the Patricia Allen Memorial Lecture, as part of the Annie MacDonald Langstaff Workshop Series. In a Q&A-style interview with Professor Jennifer Raso, she will share insights from her inspiring career and her newly published memoir, Run Like a Girl.ÌýÌý

Following their conversation, audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions during an open Q&A session. The event will be preceded by a small reception in the Caren & Jordan H. Waxman Common Room.Ìý

Biography

Catherine McKenna (³¢³¢µþ’99) is Canada’s former Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister of Infrastructure. As a key architect of Canada’s first comprehensive climate plan and a lead negotiator of the Paris Agreement, McKenna has played a pivotal role in shaping global climate policy. She currently chairs the UN Secretary General’s High-Level Expert Group on Net-Zero Commitments and advises several international climate and policy initiatives. A lawyer and former UN negotiator, she is also the founder of Women Leading on Climate and holds academic appointments at the London School of Economics, UCLA Law, and Columbia University. Her leadership has earned her global recognition, including the Légion »å’H´Ç²Ô²Ô±ð³Ü°ù and an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Canadian Geographic Society.Ìý

McKenna’s new book, , offers a candid reflection on her time in politics and her journey as a leader and climate advocate. With honesty and energy, she explores what it means to lead with courage, to balance ambition with purpose, and to empower the next generation of women to shape a fairer, more sustainable world.Ìý

About the Annie MacDonald Langstaff WorkshopsÌý

Inaugurated in 1988 in honour of Annie MacDonald Langstaff, BCL'14, the first woman to earn a law degree in Quebec, the Annie MacDonald Langstaff Workshops provide a forum for academics, judges, lawyers, and community activists to present scholarly research and practical insights on issues relating to women and the law. Two named lectures, the Margot E. Halpenny Memorial Lecture and the Patricia Allen Memorial Lecture are given each year as part of the series, in addition to three or four additional presentations.Ìý

About the Patricia Allen Memorial LectureÌý

Created in 1992 by the Class of 1988 in memory of classmate Patricia Allen, a graduate of the Faculty who was senselessly murdered by her former partner, this annual lectureship is devoted to sensitizing and educating the legal community and others about pressing social and legal issues, particularly that of violence against women.ÌýÌý
