Construction Starts: Neuro Montreal – 9.4T MRI Installation

ÿÈÕ̽»¨ has mandated SDI Canada to carry out Project 21-094, which involves the installation of a new 9.4T MRI in the Webster Pavilion of the Montreal Neurological Institute.

The project will renovate and transform laboratory spaces WB306 and its adjacent rooms WB305 and WB307 to house the new MRI. A new HVAC system will also be installed on the Webster roof to provide cooling, heating, and humidification. Once complete, the facility will expand ÿÈÕ̽»¨â€™s research capacity in neuroscience and imaging.

Scope of work

  • Renovation and transformation of room WB306 and its adjacent rooms WB305 and WB307 to accommodate a new 9.4T MRI.
  • Installation of new HVAC system equipped with cooling, heating, and humidification services on the Webster roof

Impact on campus

  • Most of the work required will be located on the 3B level in the Webster pavilion as well as in some mechanical rooms and rooftops. Some punctual work will be done on the Molson Stadium track field and will be completed before the start of the Alouettes 2026 season.
  • All work will be coordinated with advance notice.
  • Noisy work and vibration will be coordinated in advance with impacted users.
  • Service shutdowns (e.g., electrical, ventilation) will require authorization and will be coordinated with building users with advance notice.

Safety measures

The project includes the removal of materials that contain asbestos.

  • This work will be carried out under the appropriate asbestos safety protocols.
  • This phase of the work is expected to be completed by 30th September 2026.
  • The safety protocols include a variety of protective measures, including sealing off the construction site from the rest of the building, the use of specialized vacuuming equipment, specialized cleaning, and daily inspections by our health and safety consultants.
